Sheet Metal Laser Cutting

Flat sheet and plate cut to profile on our fiber laser — mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Burr-free edges, no tooling, no minimum order.

Flat Sheet and Plate,
Cut to Drawing

Alongside our tube laser, FABPRO runs flat-bed fiber laser cutting in-house — so sheet and plate components are cut under the same roof, to the same standard, as the tube and profile work we are known for.

The cutting path comes straight from your CAD file. Outlines, holes, slots and internal cut-outs are all cut in one programmed pass, with a narrow kerf and a small heat-affected zone. Parts come off the bed square, burr-free and dimensionally true — no deburring, no drilling, no marking out.

And because nothing is tooled, an intricate profile costs no more to cut than a plain one, and a single prototype is as viable as a run of five hundred.

What We Cut From Sheet

From a single bracket to a full set of architectural panels — cut from your drawing, on one machine, with nothing tooled first.

Sheet Metal Laser Cutting

Flat sheet cut to profile on our fiber laser — holes, slots, cut-outs and complex outlines in a single programmed pass, with clean square edges that need no deburring before the next operation.

  • Complex outlines and internal cut-outs together
  • Burr-free edges straight off the machine
  • Identical parts across the whole run

Plate Laser Cutting

Heavier plate cut with the same accuracy as thin sheet. Brackets, base plates, gussets and structural connections come off the bed with bolt holes positioned to drawing and edges ready to weld.

  • Base plates, gussets and structural brackets
  • Bolt-hole patterns cut to position
  • Weld-ready edges, no secondary prep

Profile & Blank Cutting

Flat blanks, discs, rings and washers cut to exact geometry. Because the path is programmed rather than tooled, an intricate profile costs no more to cut than a simple one — and needs no press tooling made first.

  • Discs, rings, washers and flat blanks
  • Intricate geometry at no tooling cost
  • Nested to get the most from each sheet

Decorative & Perforated Panels

Screens, balustrade infills, privacy panels and signage cut from sheet to your artwork. Fine detail holds cleanly because the kerf is narrow and the heat-affected zone is small.

  • Architectural screens and privacy panels
  • Perforated and patterned infills
  • Signage, logos and lettering

Custom Laser Cut Parts

One-off prototypes through to repeat production batches, cut from your CAD file. The program stays on file, so a re-order in six months produces parts that interchange with the originals.

  • Prototypes and single components
  • Repeat batches that match the first run
  • No minimum order quantity

Cut, Welded & Finished

Flat-cut parts do not have to leave as flat parts. We laser weld and fabricate them into finished assemblies in the same facility, so a job moves straight from the bed to the weld bay.

  • Cut and welded under one roof
  • Finished assemblies, not just blanks
  • One point of accountability

Mild Steel, Stainless
& Aluminium

Different metals behave very differently under a laser. Here is what we cut in flat sheet and plate, and why fiber laser is the right process for each.

Mild Steel Laser Cutting

The workhorse of structural and general fabrication work. Sheet and plate cut to profile with every hole, slot and weld preparation already in place, so parts arrive ready to assemble rather than ready to start marking out.

  • Structural brackets, base plates and gussets
  • Weld preparations cut on the machine
  • Consistent geometry across batch runs

Stainless Steel Laser Cutting

Fiber laser is the right process for stainless. A narrow kerf and small heat-affected zone mean the surrounding material keeps its corrosion resistance and surface finish — no discolouration bands, no heavy grinding to clean up afterwards.

  • Clean edges that keep their passive layer
  • Food-grade, architectural and marine work
  • Minimal finishing before installation

Aluminium Laser Cutting

Aluminium is reflective and sheds heat fast, which makes it unforgiving on the wrong machine. Fiber laser handles it cleanly, holding accuracy on thin gauge that would distort under other cutting processes.

  • Thin gauge cut without warping
  • Lightweight panels, trims and enclosures
  • Clean edges on cosmetic parts

Why Laser, Not Punching
or Plasma

No Tooling, No Minimums

Cutting is programmed rather than punched, so there is no die to make and no minimum order to justify it. A single prototype is genuinely economical.

Complex Geometry Costs No More

An intricate profile takes the same setup as a simple rectangle. If you can draw it, we can cut it — the complexity lives in the program, not the tooling.

Burr-Free, Weld-Ready Edges

Parts come off the bed square and clean, which removes deburring, drilling and grinding from everything downstream of us.

Minimal Heat Distortion

A narrow, concentrated beam leaves a small heat-affected zone, so flat parts stay flat and cosmetic surfaces stay clean.

Efficient Nesting

Parts are nested across the sheet to get the most finished components out of every square metre — a real saving when material is the biggest line item.

Repeatable Batch to Batch

The cutting program is kept on file. Re-order months later and the parts still interchange with the originals.

Sheet Cutting Questions, Answered

Ask us directly
What is sheet metal laser cutting?
A fiber laser beam is focused onto flat sheet or plate and follows a path programmed from your CAD file, cutting the outline and every internal feature — holes, slots, cut-outs — in a single pass. Because nothing physically touches the material, there is no tooling to make, no die wear, and no distortion from press force. The edge comes off square and burr-free.
What materials do you cut in sheet and plate?
Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium across the range of gauges we run in-house. If you send through your material, grade and thickness with your drawing, we will confirm straight away whether it is within our current capacity and quote accordingly.
What sheet sizes and thicknesses can you handle?
Our capacity depends on the material and gauge, so the honest answer is to send us the part. Give us the sheet size, material and thickness with your drawing and we will confirm what we can cut before you commit to anything.
Do you cut one-off parts, or only production runs?
Both. Laser cutting is programmed rather than tooled, so there is no tooling cost to spread across a large order — a single prototype bracket and a batch of five hundred are cut with the same accuracy. There is no minimum order quantity.
What file formats do you need for a quote?
DXF, DWG, STEP and IGES all work well, and we can work from a dimensioned PDF too. If you only have a sketch with measurements on it, send it through — our team will review it and advise on the best approach before anything is cut.
Can you weld and fabricate the parts you cut?
Yes. We laser weld and fabricate in the same facility, so flat-cut components can leave as finished assemblies rather than as loose blanks. Tell us where you want us to stop — cut parts, welded sub-assembly, or complete unit — and we will quote to that point.
Do you also cut tube and structural sections?
We do — tube and profile cutting is where FABPRO started. Round, square, rectangular and oval tube, plus angle iron, channel and beam sections, are cut on our tube laser with notching and profiling in the same setup. See our laser cutting and tube cutting pages for the detail.
Where are you based and do you deliver?
Our facility is at 37 Main Road, Eastleigh, Edenvale, Gauteng. We supply clients across South Africa — parts are carefully packaged and dispatched, and we can accommodate urgent requirements where scheduling allows.
